Senior Platform Engineer

Job Description

Our client is a European industrial automation provider building an industrial IoT platform that streams machine and production data into AWS. The platform runs on multi-cluster Kubernetes, with EKS in AWS and on-prem clusters at the plant sites. Terraform manages the infrastructure and GitOps handles delivery. You embed long-term in the client's platform team and own the golden paths and self-service tooling that the product teams use to ship their services. You work under the client's technical direction, alongside their platform lead, site reliability engineers, and the product teams the platform serves.

What you'll be doing

• Operate multi-cluster Kubernetes across EKS and on-prem clusters at plant sites, covering upgrades, node lifecycle, and capacity
• Build and maintain Terraform modules for AWS networking, EKS, IAM, and shared platform services
• Run GitOps delivery with FluxCD/ArgoCD: cluster reconciliation, release promotion, and per-environment configuration
• Design golden paths and self-service tooling that the product teams use to ship to production
• Own the Prometheus/Grafana stack: metrics pipelines, alert rules, dashboards, and SLOs for platform services
• Migrate plant-local workloads onto the shared platform where latency and data residency allow
• Harden cluster baselines: network policies, Pod Security Standards, image policies, and workload secrets
• Review designs and production incidents with the client's platform lead and product team engineers

What you'll need

• 10+ years of infrastructure or platform engineering, 7+ years running Kubernetes in production
• Production experience with EKS and at least one on-prem Kubernetes setup (kubeadm, Rancher, or OpenShift)
• Terraform at module-author level: reusable modules, remote state, multi-account AWS layouts
• GitOps in production with FluxCD or ArgoCD
• Prometheus and Grafana operations: PromQL, Alertmanager routing, and SLO-based alerting
• Strong Linux and container networking fundamentals: DNS, TLS, load balancing, CNI behavior
• Go or Python for internal tooling and controllers
• Professional working proficiency in English
• Based in the EU with working hours overlapping CET

Nice to have

• German at B2 or above
• Exposure to manufacturing or other industrial environments: OT networks, edge deployments, plant-floor constraints
• Backstage, Crossplane, or Cluster API experience
• CKA or CKS certification
• MQTT or Kafka experience on data ingestion paths
• Availability for occasional business travel within the EU
